Janet Evanovich's signature character Stephanie Plum has been great for laughs for the first twelve books in the series and how book thirteen measures up.

Each and every June children look forward to the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation and at the same time many parents look forward to the release of the newest Stephanie Plum novel. Knowing that release date is creeping up can feel like the anticipation of waiting to see what Santa Claus has left under the tree each December 25, and in "Lean Mean Thirteen", Janet Evanovich's latest release in the Plum series does not disappoint.

"Lean Mean Thirteen" is full of the humor that one anticipates from a Plum novel, the laugh out loud situations that the hapless bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum, gets herself into once again require rescuing by her mentor and on again - off again boyfriend.

The vivid descriptions that Ms. Evanovich gives to every detail in these books lets the reader "see" Grandma Mazur getting ready to attend the nights viewing with her new hair-do and making sure her gun is safely tucked away in her purse. Lula, the former "ho" turned bounty hunter is there in all her spandex glory helping Stephanie get out of trouble as well; or is she helping her get into more trouble? That is for the reader to decide.

Stephanie has to once again find New Jersey bondees that have missed their court dates and help them to reschedule in order to keep a roof over her head and also to keep herself in at least one new car per book since her cars mysteriously blow-up or get crushed on a regular basis.

In Lean Mean Thirteen not only does Stephanie have to deal with someone trying to kill her, but she has to accept the fact that she is helping her slime ball ex-husband and arch enemy. She handles this with all the grace that she handles every situation; and as long as there are Tasty Cakes, Macaroni and Cheese, and a Pineapple Upside Down Cake somewhere in her future Stephanie Plum will continue to entertain us with one great adventure after another.

The only downside is that the book is such a good read it leaves an avid reader with the knowledge that they have to wait another year for number fourteen to see what trouble Stephanie can get into, and if she and Morelli can make it work, and if Lula and Tank become a couple… the questions are endless and the adventures are bountiful.

Pick up Lean Mean Thirteen and bring it to the beach, just ignore the stares of the other sun-worshipers are you laugh out loud and tell them they have to know Stephanie Plum to understand
